“What do you mean, Callie’s here, too?” Aubrey asked, completely shocked.

Carlos frowned, “Well, she had to come and see Mama and Evan. It’s her first Christmas since moving to Dallas and I guess she wanted to celebrate at home. Why? Is there a problem?”

“You know that it’s not a problem, I was just surprised to hear it. We haven’t really talked much lately.” Aubrey said to try and smooth things over. “And so, where’s she staying?”

“In the guest room at my house and I have turned the basement into a den and that’s where you’ll be. I have a Futon and an awesome sofa bed down there. Hell, if I’m gonna get put in the penalty box, might as well be on punishment in comfort and style.” Carlos chuckled.

Aubrey thought for a second, “I can go to Gabe’s. I don’t care for being in my mother’s old house all like that but, I’ll go stay there with him. Or if not, I know that Mario and Tia only have a one bedroom so I could get a room at the Marriott downtown or something.” Aubrey offered.

He wasn’t sure if it was safe to be in the same house with Callie and Carlos quite yet.

Carlos shot Aubrey an insulted look, “I wouldn’t dream of letting you stay anywhere else but with me, bro. You’ve already accepted my offer and like I said, there is enough room so you wouldn’t be inconveniencing anyone. Everything is going to be fine.” He reassured.

Aubrey sank back in his seat and thought to himself:

I wish I was as confident about it as you are.
